AIKEN, S.C.- Mr. Larry Eugene Owens, 51, of Aiken, died December 15, 2003.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Solid Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Ronnie Powell officiating. Interment will follow in Graniteville Cemetery.

Mr. Owens worked at Vel Met as a Maintenance Supervisor. He was a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge No. 156.

Survivors include his mother, Jeanette Vickers Owens, Aiken; a son, Chris Owens, Aiken; a sister, Kathy Adams, Largo, Fla.

He was predeceased by a sister, Linda Williams.

Funeral services for Ms. Joan Wolf will be held from the graveside in Sons of Israel Cemetery, Aiken, with Rabbi Sanford Marcus officiating.

Ms. Wolf, 51, of Aiken, died Wednesday, night, August 13, 2003 at her residence.

Born in Aiken, a daughter of the late Abraham and Hazel Goodman Wolf, she had lived in Atlanta, for some time prior coming back home to Aiken. Joan was employed by Zales Jewelers at the time of her death.

In addition to her parents, sisters, Sheila Wolf Warner and Janice Wolf Capiluto, preceded her in death.

Jan Percle was born May 25, 1953 and died June 26, 2003.
On  January 5, 1974, she married David Wayne Shiplett.  They had a son and a daughter.
Records for later years show that Jan returned to Aiken under the name Janet Swing.

Dawn Francine Fowler Barrett ~ October 16, 1952 – February 20, 2003

AIKEN, S.C. – Services for Mrs. Dawn Fowler Barrett will be Saturday, at 11 a.m., at George Funeral Home. Burial in the Slate Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, London, Ky. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m., until services. Mrs. Barrett, 49, wife of Mr. H.L. Les Barrett, died Thursday. Her parents, B.J. and Kathleen Parrish Fowler; sons, Damion Barrett, and his wife Misty, Huntsville, Ala. and Wesley Barrett, and his fiance Jennifer Bickel, survive.

Aiken High History

On February 23, 1888, the Aiken Institute was incorporated by an act of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina. The school opened its doors as a high school on September 17, 1888. The first students were required to pay a small tuition to help defray the cost of running the school.
