Bertha Johnson

Obituary

It is with deep and profound sympathy that we announce the transition of Ms. Bertha L. Johnson who entered into rest October 16, 2021 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

Ms. Johnson, a native of Aiken County, was a member of Second Baptist Church.

Survivors include one sister, Debra Johnson of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; two brothers, Marvin (Annie Ruth) Johnson and Curtis (Vanessa) Johnson both of Aiken, SC; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Pine Lawn Cemetery.  Viewing will be held from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.

 

Professional Service have been entrusted to the care of G. L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary-Aiken.

Teresa Jennings Davis

Cheraw, SC

Teresa J. Davis, 69, passed away on Wednesday, August 11, 2021.  Born, June 2,1953 in Martinsville, VA, she was a daughter of the late William and Jane Sanford Jennings.  Teresa was a Registered Nurse and enjoyed caring for people.  She was a member of Saint David’s Church in Cheraw, where she was a member of the Choir, the Altar Guild, and in the Daughters of the King and the Knit Witts, which made prayer shawls for the sick.  Mrs. Davis also volunteered at the Mercy in Me Free Medical Clinic in Cheraw.

She was preceded in death by her parents listed above.

Teresa leaves behind to cherish her memory, her husband, Franklin H. Davis of the home; son, Franklin William Davis of El Paso, TX; a daughter, Jo Anne Throgmorton of El Paso, TX; a brother, Paul Jennings of Lincolnton, GA; a sister, Rebecca Verastegui, of Knoxville, TN; and grandchildren, Lilith, Charlie, and Julian.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Saint David’s Church in Cheraw, SC.  The Family will receive friends, following the service at the church on Saturday.

Maurice Wimberly

Windsor, SC – Mr. Maurice Charles Wimberly, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, August 7, 2021 at Aiken Regional Medical Center, Aiken, SC. The Homegoing Celebration for Mr. Maurice C. Wimberly will be conducted on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Simmons Funeral Home of Williston, Inc. & Cremation Service, with Reverend Nora Wimberly officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 11:30 AM – 6:00 PM at Simmons Funeral Home of Williston, Inc. & Cremation Service.

Robert ” Bobby” Gantt

North Augusta, SC – A Visitation for Mr. Robert “Bobby” Gantt, Sr., 68, who entered into rest August 6, 2021, will be held Monday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock at Posey Funeral Directors.

Mr. Gantt was a native of Aiken, SC, having made North Augusta, SC, his home for the past 38 years. He was a 1971 graduate of Aiken High School and retired from Kimberly-Clark with 42 years of service. Mr. Gantt was a sports enthusiast who lived for baseball. He enjoyed influencing young players during his lifetime of coaching baseball. Mr. Gantt coached for North Augusta High School for 18 years and while there, won a state championship in 1997. He later coached with Fox Creek High School for several years, winning a state championship in 2017. Mr. Gantt coached the Diamond Devils traveling team and help guide the North Augusta Pre-Majors to a World Series in 2005. He was also an avid Clemson football fan. Mr. Gantt will be fondly remembered for the love he had for his family, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Martin Gantt; his parents, James “Pete” and Pearl Gantt; and a brother, Andy Gantt.

Survivors include four children, Rob (Lisa) Gantt of Hanahan, SC, Holli (Andy) Brown of Aiken, SC, Martin Gantt of North Augusta, SC, Lynli (Wesley) McDaniel of Warrenville, SC; four grandchildren, Chayson Gantt, Marilaine Brown, Lawson Brown, Aspyn McDaniel; a brother, Ted (Janice) Gantt of West Columbia, SC; his mother-in-law, Marilyn Martin of Toccoa, GA; his brother-in-law, Allan Martin of Cumming, GA; his stepmother, Beth Gantt of West Columbia, SC; two nephews; one niece; and Collin Liggett of Blythewood, SC, who he loved like a son.
