Darryl Kevin Riles

Darryl was the owner of Equine Dental Services. For many years, he traveled to horse farms throughout Georgia, Louisiana, Kentucky, South Carolina and Virginia. Darryl’s father was a champion steeplechase jockey. Darryl enjoyed going to Saratoga Springs, NY, to visit his godmother, Betsy L. Delay. He enjoyed the excitement of watching his dad compete in races there and win races including The Promise Stakes aboard “Vendetta” in the late 50’s.

Darryl was born in Mineola, NY, on June 8, 1952. He grew up in Aiken, SC, and was an avid golfer. He played to a low handicap and was a member of Midland Valley Country Club for many years. He was also a member of the Syndicate at Blackhawk Golf Course in Chippewa, PA.

Darryl is survived by his wife, Karen; his son, Bobby (Chrissy), as well as his granddaughter, Caroline Dorothy, and grandson, Robert Scott Riles, Jr., due in early June. He is also survived by his brothers, Scott (Rosemary) and Dwayne. He was predeceased by his parents, Scott D. and Helen F. Riles.

Darryl leaves behind many friends. Darryl was a kind and thoughtful man and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Sharon Verner Ballinger

BALLINGER-Sharon Verner Ballinger, age 61, of Aiken, S.C., daughter of the late Clinton Ray Verner and the late Evelyn Owenby Verner entered into rest on Tuesday, January 27, 2015. She is survived by daughters, Shannon Gue and Whitney Ballinger; a brother, Bryce Verner all of Aiken, S.C.; grandchildren, Brooklyn Gue, Christian Gue, Nicholas Gue, Jacob Gue, Tristan Thomas, Harley Williams and Andilyn Williams. She was born in Cairo, Illinois but has spent most of her life in Aiken County, S.C. She was a CNA by profession and enjoyed caring for people very much. She was a member of Highland Pines Baptist Church in Aiken. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She shall be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched during the 61 years that God granted her on this earth. Death cannot destroy precious memories, and she shall live on forever in the hearts of her family and loved ones. A memorial service, celebrating her life, will be held at Highland Pines Baptist Church on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 4:00 PM with Rev.Wesley Greene. The interment will be private. Memorials may be made to Highland Pines Baptist Church, 1530 Hampton Ave. NW, Aiken, S.C. 2980l. Napier Funeral Home, 315 Main St., Graniteville, S.C. is in charge of the funeral arrangements. Artlee Byrd (Kalu) died 10/27/14

AIKEN, SC – Mrs. Artlee Byrd Kalu, age 61 entered into eternal rest on Monday October 27, 2014 at CM Tucker Jr. Nursing Care Center Columbia, SC.

Memorial Services will be held 1:00pm Friday October 31, 2014 at Bell Grove Baptist Church Aiken, SC Rev. Lester A. Smalls, Pastor-officiating.

She leaves to cherish her memories: three sons: Kalu Umachi, New Mexico, Ambrose Umachi, Texas, and Simeon Umachi; three sisters: Linda Pixley, Anita Byrd both of Aiken, SC, and Bertha Byrd, Augusta, GA; four brothers Henry (Laverne) Byrd, Aiken, SC, Jasper (Georgia) Byrd, Johnston, SC, Charles (Carolyn) Byrd, North Augusta, SC, and Larry Byrd, Augusta, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Larry Randall Ledford

NEW ELLENTON, SC – Mr. Larry Randall Ledford, 61, loving husband of Patricia Heath Ledford, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2014.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 11:00 AM in the Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Gary Mathis and the Reverend Edgar Foster officiating. Interment will follow in the Chime Bell Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors.

Pallbearers will be Matt Seigler, Derek Penvose, Will Owen, Tom Amburn, Michael McManus, and Randy Heath. Honorary pallbearers will be Debra Owen and Christine McManus.

Larry Randall Ledford 1971 — Larry Ledford 1971

A native of Aiken, Mr. Ledford was a son of the late John Ledford and Joyce White Ledford. He was a life long resident as well as a draftsman and musician all of his life. He served in the US Army for four years. He loved to barbeque and entertain, and enjoyed working with his hands. He loved and had compassion for everyone, especially his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Ledford is survived by a daughter, Tabitha (Matt Seigler) Ledford; two sons, Jonathan (Jenna) Ledford, Adam (Chado Yost) Ledford; three grandchildren, Evan Ledford, Shane Ledford, Chloe Seigler; a sister, Lorraine Penvose; nieces, Jessica McGee, Samantha Lewis, Melissa Penvose, Laura Ledford; nephews Will Owen, Chad Heath, Shaun Heath, Derek Penvose, Lamar Ledford; multiple great nieces and nephews

In addition to his parents, Mr. Ledford was preceded in death by his brother, Leonard Ledford.
